Selection Process

Act Six scholars are chosen through a rigorous, two-phase selection process:

PHASE I

Applicants complete an initial written application that includes the basic Crichton admissions application as well as additional essay questions, letters of recommendation from school and community references, and family financial information. A Memphis-based application review committee selects approximately 20 semifinalists who are invited to participate in Phase II.

PHASE II

Semifinalists visit the Crichton campus, along with one parent or guardian, in mid February for an event that will allow students and their families to experience and learn more about Crichton as students participate in a four-part interactive evaluation process that includes a personal interview, an on-site essay-write, academic seminar discussions, and group problem-solving activities. Transportation, housing, and meals for the visit are provided by the program.

DECISION

A selection committee names 10 finalists in late February.  Once named, finalists are required to make a formal commitment to the Act Six program, agreeing to attend Crichton and to participate fully in the six month training program.   Applicants may withdraw at any time prior to this commitment.
